NSE Holiday List 2026

Planning your trades around market holidays is essential for managing your portfolio and settlement cycles. For calendar year 2026, National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has scheduled 15 full trading holidays on weekdays.

Additionally, while many major holidays fall on weekends this year, exchange will maintain its tradition of Muhurat Trading on Diwali.

NSE Trading Holidays 2026 (Equity & Derivatives)

The following table lists dates when Equity, Equity Derivatives, and SLB segments will be completely closed for trading.

Special Trading Sessions & Weekend Holidays

1. Muhurat Trading

Even though Diwali (Laxmi Pujan) falls on a Sunday in 2026, the market will open for a special one-hour session:

  • Date: Sunday, November 08, 2026

  • Timing: To be notified by exchange (typically held in the evening).

2. Union Budget 2026

Stock market will remain open on Sunday, February 01, 2026, for a special trading session to account for the Union Budget presentation.

3. Holidays on Weekends

Following holidays fall on Saturdays or Sundays in 2026 and will not result in additional weekday closures:

  • February 15 (Sunday): Mahashivratri

  • March 21 (Saturday): Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid)

  • August 15 (Saturday): Independence Day

  • November 08 (Sunday): Diwali-Laxmi Pujan (Regular holiday, except for Muhurat Trading)

Commodity Derivatives Segment

For NSE Commodity segment, holiday rules differ slightly:

  • Morning Session (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM): Closed on all dates listed in main table above.

  • Evening Session (5:00 PM – 11:30/11:55 PM): Remains Open for most holidays (like Holi, Ram Navami, and Dussehra) to align with global markets, but is Closed on major national holidays like Republic Day, Good Friday, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, and Christmas.

  • T+1 Settlement: Remember that India follows a T+1 settlement cycle. If you sell shares on day before a holiday, your funds will be delayed by an extra 24 hours.

  • Banking Holidays: Settlement holidays (days when clearing banks are closed but exchange is open) may also occur. Notable dates include February 19 (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti) and April 1 (Bank Closing).
